Position Overview
This position is responsible for utilizing analytical techniques to develop and validate cooling systems used in construction, mining, power generation, marine, and locomotive applications, spanning both internal combustion engine and battery electric platforms. The role provides 1-D and 3-D simulation support for electrification projects as well as cooling performance simulation for diesel-powered applications — including up-front 1-D system sizing and component selection, and high-end Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation for virtual design and validation. Success in this role requires strong communication skills and close collaboration with design, system, and validation partners to deliver validated design solutions against challenging program deliverables and timelines.
Key Contributions & Responsibilities
• Conduct application-specific cooling system analysis projects, developing cooling system layouts and sizing/selecting components (including heat exchangers and fans) using 1-D simulation tools
• Perform component-level CFD analysis on parts such as pumps, radiators, and aftercoolers to determine performance characteristics
• Develop CFD models to understand airflow through cooling packages and underhood thermal CFD models to predict component temperatures
• Collaborate with design partners to meet technical and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with test engineers to correlate analysis models to test results
• Communicate analysis results and suggest design improvements to product development teams
• Perform root-cause analysis to help resolve cooling-related field problems
• Contribute to ongoing improvements in simulation methods, processes, and tools
• Help establish technical requirements and specifications for new products

Candidate Requirements
Education & Experience Required
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace, or similar preferred) and 2+ years of experience is required OR
• Master's degree, or a Doctorate degree with 1+ years of experience
• At least 1 year of experience focused on cooling system performance for product development, including 1-D and CFD system simulation
• Strong background and interest in thermo-sciences (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer)
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
• Project management skills allowing for handling of multiple projects and priorities
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's or Doctorate degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Aerospace Engineering and 2+ years of experience using Fluent, 1-D analysis tools (e.g., GT-Suite), and Creo
• Working knowledge of engine, lubrication/powertrain cooling, and/or electrification systems
• Proficiency with CFD tools such as Fluent, Star CCM+, or OpenFOAM
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C++, or Java
• Proficiency with meshing tools such as ANSA or ANSYS Workbench/SpaceClaim
• Knowledge of product development processes for machines, engines, and battery/electric systems
• Strong presentation skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
