Our Distribution group is currently looking to add a Ground Disturbance / Line Locating Coordinator to our growing team, based in Sherwood Park, AB.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, we are seeking a diligent and safety-focused professional who has knowledge and experience in buried facility locating, ground disturbance coordination, and damage prevention on utility construction and maintenance projects. This position will plan, coordinate, and inspect ground disturbance activities from ticket intake through to safe excavation, and will support field crews and project teams across active project sites.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform buried facility locating using electromagnetic locating equipment and other detection methods; accurately mark, document, and communicate the location of underground utilities and infrastructure
Submit, track, and manage one-call locate requests (Utility Safety Partners / Alberta One-Call), ensuring valid and current tickets are in place before any excavation begins
Coordinate ground disturbance activities across multiple projects, ensuring work is planned and executed in accordance with Alberta ground disturbance standards and Valard procedures
Conduct ground disturbance inspections in the field to verify locates, hand-exposure zones, and safe excavation practices are being followed
Manage utility, road, rail, and watercourse crossings, coordinating requirements with facility owners and stakeholders
Prepare, review, and administer crossing agreements, ensuring all approvals and documentation are in place prior to work
Provide project management support for locating and ground disturbance scopes, including scheduling, progress tracking, and reporting
Maintain accurate records of locates, tickets, crossings, and inspections for compliance and project turnover
Liaise with field crews, supervisors, project teams, and third-party facility owners to resolve locating and ground disturbance issues, promoting a strong safety culture on every site
Requirements
Experience in buried facility locating, ground disturbance coordination, or damage prevention
Ground Disturbance certification (Ground Disturbance 201 or equivalent)
Working knowledge of one-call / locate systems (Utility Safety Partners / Alberta One-Call)
Demonstrated familiarity with Alberta ground disturbance standards and regulatory requirements
Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
Experience in the utility, power line, or electrical construction industry
Experience with electromagnetic locating equipment (e.g., pipe and cable locators)
Knowledge of crossing agreements and facility owner requirements
Utility locator certification or equivalent
