Job Description:
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the deployment, integration, and commissioning of underground mining systems on the BHP Jansen Potash Project based in Leroy, SK. Hatch and Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project. This is a field-focused, execution-oriented role, ideal for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or early-career P.Eng. with hands-on exposure to underground mining or heavy industrial equipment. The role sits at the intersection of engineering, construction, and operations and plays a key part in safely delivering critical mining system scope on the project’s critical path.
Working as part of the Hatch–Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) Mining Production Systems team, you will support system deployment activities including lowering, storage, assembly, launch, and commissioning of major underground mining equipment. You will collaborate closely with equipment vendors, planners, construction teams, and BHP Operations to ensure systems are execution-ready and smoothly transitioned into operation.
Rotation: 14 days on / 7 days off

On project title: Mining Systems Specialist
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support deployment and commissioning of underground mining systems, including equipment and infrastructure interfaces
Review, organize, and manage vendor documentation to ensure site teams have access to current and accurate information
Interface with equipment suppliers, contractors, planners, and internal project teams
Submit and track technical queries and support resolution with subject-matter experts as required
Support onboarding of vendor and third-party personnel
Spend time underground and in the field during system deployment and commissioning activities
Assist with project controls activities such as progress tracking, cost support, documentation updates, and forecasting
Support operational readiness activities and vendor interface leading up to system launch
Participate in site leadership, safety programs, training, and operational performance meetings
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or Journeyperson Electrician or Mechanic with relevant underground mining systems experience
2–5 years of relevant experience in underground mining, mining equipment deployment, equipment manufacturing, or mining-related EPCM or project execution environments
Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada (for engineering candidates)
Practical, working-level understanding of underground mining equipment and systems, with the ability to participate confidently in technical and operational discussions
Experience or exposure to field-based execution, commissioning, construction support, or operational readiness activities
Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups
High attention to detail, initiative, and a commitment to quality and safe execution
Nice to Have:
Experience on large mining or industrial capital projects or joint-venture delivery models
Soft rock mining experience. Familiarity with systems such as miner borers, continuous miners, flexible or extendable conveyor systems, mine power, ventilation, and materials handling infrastructure
Exposure to working directly with OEMs or equipment suppliers during installation or commissioning
Continuous improvement or root-cause analysis experience in operational or project environments
